It seems it is going to be about 29 degrees in Sapporo for the whole of this week according to the weather forecast. Although summer is my least favourite season, and I prefer cold weather to hot weather, I cannot bring myself to say that I hate summer in Sapporo. The reason being its summer is too short, thus making it very precious. I have to admit that I am not a fan of this humidity, but considering that it is much easier to move around while the streets are not covered with a thick layer of snow, I think I can learn to live with it.
Summer is the season for many festivals and outdoor activities here in Sapporo. With just a bicycle, it is extremely easy to get to most of the venues where these festivals are held. These activities are made even more enjoyable if you are going with a few of your friends. Not only will you get to have a good time taking part in the traditional Japanese festivals, you will also get to hang out with your buddies at the beer garden afterwards, which is held during the summer holidays here in Sapporo. If these kind of activities do not seem like your cup of tea, you can go for a drive into Furano, or Biei to visit the lavender farm and try their lavender ice-cream or melons, which Hokkaido is famous for. I must say, although it is hot here in summer, there are still plenty of things to do around here that will keep boredom away.
September marks the beginning of autumn and Sapporo gets even more picturesque so please look forward to it!
